Following discussions between the Oldham Music Centre and Brighouse & Rastrick , we are delighted to announce that a new partnership has been set up between Brighouse & Rastrick and the Oldham Music Centre Youth Brass Band. This exciting new arrangement will be mutually beneficial to both organisations.

This partnership will include a number of significant projects:

1) Joint concerts will be held on a regular basis, the first of which will be on July 10th at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in Oldham. The day will also include an afternoon rehearsal session when Brighouse & Rastrick will provide 5 principal players to tutor the Youth Brass Band sections on some massed item repertoire. The evening concert will include a 1st half performance by the Youth Brass Band with a 2nd half featuring Brighouse & Rastrick. The evening will culminate in a joint massed item. Further details will follow nearer the time.

2) Help from Brighouse & Rastrick principals with the Youth Band’s preparations for championships and contests.

3) A joint Christmas event in December 2016, somewhere in the Oldham area. Further details will follow nearer the time.

4) Brighouse & Rastrick will provide some guest soloists at the Music Centre’s Departmental concerts in 2017.

5) The Youth Brass Band will have the opportunity to perform in some Brighouse & Rastrick events in Yorkshire.

Alan Morrison, Band Manager for Brighouse & Rastrick commented: “We are delighted to team up with the Oldham Music Centre. I have personally heard their Youth Band on many occasions, including their Whit Friday contest performances. They achieve a remarkably high standard and I hope that we can help them to develop even further. It is very important that Britain’s adult bands offer assistance and encouragement to young up and coming brass players. We have been looking for an opportunity such as this for some time and very much look forward to this new relationship with Oldham’s young students”.

Jonathan Leedale, the Oldham Music Centre Youth Brass Band’s conductor added: “I approached Brighouse & Rastrick in February and suggested that they might like to consider working with us as a partner. I was delighted with their positive response and an agreement was reached very quickly.. This is fantastic news for our young brass players and I am thrilled to be involved with such an iconic brass band.”
